In this article, the authors examine the mathematics identity development of six Black male students over the course of a 4-year The Algebra Project Cohort Model (APCM) initiative. The analyses suggest that the APCM students’ confidence in self and peers increased over the 4 years, they consistently chose to engage in mathematics, and their reliance on knowledgeable others lessened.

Racial inequity in education has a long history in North Carolina public schools. This report endeavors to provide comprehensive analysis of the condition of racial equity in North Carolina K-12 public schools. The results confirm the existence of long-standing racial gaps in achievement, graduation/dropout, grade point average, SAT scores, and ACT scores.
